Geology and Natural Features
- The canyon was carved by the Okatse River over thousands of years. It stretches about 2 km within the protected area, with depths ranging from 20 to 100 meters and widths between 3 to 20 meters.
- It features several waterfalls, small lakes, and unique rock formations. One of the most impressive spots is the natural cavern called “Boga,” where visitors can look straight down to the canyon floor.
- Geologists discovered tectonic activity here that has shaped the landscape, including an ancient lakebed (Gordian Lake) with thick sediment layers that preserve prehistoric climate records.
What to Expect on Site
- From the visitor center in Gordi, a scenic trail leads to the start of the thrilling hanging walkway. The 780m suspension bridge clings to the vertical rock wall and ends with a panoramic viewing platform hanging over the canyon.
- A separate path with nearly 1,000 steps descends to the bottom of the canyon where the walls are very close together, creating an awe-inspiring experience.
- The area also includes Dadiani Forest Park and the ruins of an old Dadiani castle, making it perfect for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike.
Flora and Wildlife
- The canyon benefits from a special microclimate with constant moisture, allowing rich vegetation including large trees and many rare plant species to thrive on the steep slopes.
- Sediments from the ancient Gordian Lake contain pollen from prehistoric trees that no longer grow in this region, offering valuable insight into Georgia’s ancient environment.
Practical Tips
- Wear comfortable hiking shoes with good grip. The paths can be slippery, especially after rain.
- The visitor center offers parking, a café, souvenir shop, and lockers.
- Best visited in spring or autumn for milder temperatures and fewer crowds.
- Combine your visit with nearby Kinchkha Waterfall for a full day of adventure.

الجيولوجيا والمعالم الطبيعية
- تشكل الوادي بواسطة نهر أوكاتسي على مر آلاف السنين. يمتد حوالي 2 كم داخل المنطقة المحمية، ويصل عمقه إلى ما بين 20 و100 متر وعرضه من 3 إلى 20 متراً.
- يحتوي على شلالات متعددة وبحيرات صغيرة وتشكيلات صخرية فريدة. أحد أروع الأماكن هو الكهف الطبيعي “بوغا” الذي يطل مباشرة على قاع الوادي.
- اكتشف الجيولوجيون نشاطاً تكتونياً هنا شكل المناظر الطبيعية، بما في ذلك بحيرة قديمة (بحيرة غورديان) تحتوي على طبقات رسوبية تحفظ سجلات المناخ القديم.
ما ينتظرك في الموقع
- من مركز الزوار في قرية غوردي، يبدأ مسار جميل يؤدي إلى الممشى المعلق المثير. ينتهي الجسر المعلق بمنصة بانورامية تطل على الوادي.
- يوجد مسار آخر يحتوي على حوالي 1000 درجة ينزل إلى قاع الوادي حيث تكون الجدران قريبة جداً من بعضها.
- يضم المنطقة أيضاً حديقة غابات ديدياني وأطلال قلعة ديدياني القديمة.
النباتات والحياة البرية
- يستفيد الوادي من مناخ محلي رطب يسمح بنمو أشجار كبيرة ونباتات نادرة على المنحدرات الشديدة الانحدار.
- تحتوي رواسب البحيرة القديمة على حبوب لقاح من أشجار ما قبل التاريخ لم تعد تنمو في المنطقة اليوم.
نصائح عملية
- ارتدِ أحذية مشي مريحة ذات قبضة جيدة، خاصة بعد المطر.
- يوجد في مركز الزوار موقف سيارات، مقهى، محل هدايا، وخزائن.
- أفضل وقت للزيارة هو الربيع أو الخريف للطقس المعتدل وقلة الزوار.
- يمكن دمج الزيارة مع شلال كينخا لقضاء يوم كامل ممتع.
