• Proximity to towns and transit: Located roughly 10–12 km north of the main hub town of Stepantsminda. It runs directly along the Military Highway leading up to the Georgian-Russian border checkpoint.

For Families: The valley floor along the main highway is fully paved and accessible by standard vehicles, allowing families to witness the dramatic mountain cliffs and visit the stunning Dariali Monastery complex safely without strenuous walking.

For Hikers: The gorge serves as an excellent gateway to nearby outdoor trails. Popular side-excursions include the trek to the Gveleti Waterfalls (Big and Small) and trail pathways heading deeper into the surrounding alpine valleys.

Good to Know

Because the gorge is located right at the international border zone, visitors should always carry their original passports or valid identification documents. Heavy winds are common throughout the narrow pass, and cell service can occasionally fluctuate between high cliff faces.
